Esri Technology Brings Geospatial Analysis to Windows Azure Marketplace

ArcGIS Maps Information in DataMarket

REDLANDS, Calif., Jan. 25, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — Esri announced today that Microsoft has selected ArcGIS as a foundation for viewing geospatial information within the DataMarket in Windows Azure Marketplace. Application developers and end users will be able to select the data they need in DataMarket, view it on a map, and analyze the data with advanced geospatial tools from Esri to make better, more informed decisions. DataMarket is a marketplace for delivering high-quality information, including Esri Updated Demographics (2010/2015), allowing developers and information workers to easily discover, purchase, and manage premium data subscriptions on the Windows Azure platform.

ArcGIS technology used in DataMarket is based on the ArcGIS API for Silverlight. The Silverlight-based viewer uses Esri technology to display DataMarket information on the map and analyze it.  For example, users can profile an area based on local demographics or study the strength of an area's housing market. The viewer includes a Basemaps button containing an assortment of maps on which to view the data.

"Working with Microsoft, we have put our mapping software into Windows Azure so that our data and other DataMarket datasets with spatial referencing, such as addresses, can be freely mapped," says Jack Dangermond, president of Esri. "This is very powerful, as customers will be able to see their data on a map and do traditional business manipulations with simple-to-use analytic tools."

Esri and Microsoft have worked in partnership for more than two decades. This most recent integration of the partners' technologies has resulted in a solution that delivers tremendous value to customers who want to enhance their business insight through location-aware data.

"We worked with Esri in advance of the recent launch of DataMarket to ensure interoperability between the wide range of data on DataMarket and the leading geospatial visualization and analysis tools available," says Moe Khosravy, product unit manager for DataMarket at Microsoft.
