Hello every one and welcome to my growing flowers tutorial!!
in this tutorial I will show you how to create growing flowers from surface, the flowers will gradually randomly grow up and will retain their original status when they reach to growing limit.
this tutorial is pretty interesting dealing with Maya Visor, personally I like this kind of effects.
ok let get started,
1-fire up Maya make new fresh scene, and then create a poly plane with the dimensions in the picture below or what ever you like, then use sculpting tool to give the plane terrain looking shape.
2-then create a spot light with the same parameters in the picture below.
Note: I have used Quadratic in Decay rate because Quadratic has the soft edges while casting shadows.
3-hold down the (H) key from your keyboard then left click you will see pop up menus choose (Rendering),
4-first select the plane and then go to (Paint Effects>>Make Paintable) now your surface is paintable we can use any kind of paint FX like the image below.
5-now go to (Window>>General Editors>>Visor) like the picture below.
6-the window for Visor will be available from there choose (Daisy Small) as in the picture illustrating below.
7-then draw it on the surface, if your flowers are the way too small then hold down the (B) key from your keyboard and then with left mouse click move around to make the brush size bigger, now yours should look something like mine below.
8-go to your channel box if its not open or you in attributes editor hold down (Space Bar) you will pop up menus just in the empty place right click choose (Attributes) like on the image below.
9-Then (Channel box / Layer Editor).
10-Now click on the name called (Daisy Small) in channel box as in the image below.
11-Once click it you will see the whole bunch of settings for the (Daisy Small) flowers, scroll down to bottom and do the same settings or whatever settings you prefer as in the highlighted areas in the image below.
12-Its time to play with other settings, open up attributes editor by (CTRL + A) click one the tab called (Daisy Small1) and then do the same settings or your preferred settings as in the picture below.
Note: Check the check mark box called (Forward Twist) I have forgotten to check it out sorry guys!!
13-Scroll down to bottom and expand the tab called (Tubes) and then expand the (Growth) tab do the setting as below.
14-Step by step keep scrolling down to bottom and find out the tab called (Branches) in the field (Start Branches>>set the value of (2) as image showing below.
15-Now open the tab (Flowers) and do the similar settings as you wish to go with.
16-In the (Turbulence) tab choose (World Force) from drop down menu in the image showing below.
17-Expand the Tab called (Spiral) and the do the settings as below.
18-Open the (Bend) tab and go as settings below.
19-Last but not the least the important area where we will animate our flowers, expand the tab called (Flow Animation) you will see few option check all check boxes called (Texture Flow>>Stroke Time>>Time Clip) check them one by one and hit play button you obviously will see the difference what they dose.
Note: (Flow Speed) is dealing with the speed of flowers or whatever related with Maya''s Visor how they grow fast or slow, the lower the values the slower growth the higher value the faster growth, so keep in mind.
This concludes our tutorial hit play button you will see flowers are growing along the time randomly once they reaches the growth limit stop''s and affects by wind and turbulence.
Here is couple of my test render at different frames you can see the difference between them.
Final render 1
Final render 2
