Three strange devices that never got past the prototype stage.  Steinheil invented and formalized the concept of ground wires, but his telegraph didn't become popular.  Highton's telegraph had the best UI/UX of all, displaying letters instead of codes.  Armstrong's electrohydrodynamic system was functional but not better than other ways of generating static charge. « Less
