where people sat down to eat in ancient rome. Also it's far closer to what the Last Supper really looked like. A person on one of these couches would always be leaning to thier left side. The long couch would have three people on it, the middle person would be the host, the person on their left would be the most important guest, the person on their right would be next in importance. This table happens to be a low lying one, and the couches are lower in accordance with the table.
