Regarding rendering reversed faces, there is a checkbox in the mat room called Normals_Forward. Use it.

If you are referring to the 'black' sides, as shown in the above picture, those are indeed back-facing polys. Because the great kilt is dynamic, the cloth has fallen forward and open to show the backside. This is normal. To improve your render, I suggest either applying a texture to the kilt, or using Indirect Lighting, or both. If you have any more or other problems, let me know. more …
