OK, this is a hobby, so the model I've made isn't perfect. Understanding, that I hope you get some use from it. I made this lo-res model to help fill out fleet scenes since superb models of carriers, battleships and destroyers are available- but not every campaign had a dozen battleships prowling around.
The New Orleans class heavy cruisers were built in the 1930's within the restrictions imposed by the Washington Naval Treaty. These 8-inch gun cruisers weighed in at just under the treaty's magic 10,000 tons, with a length of 180m. These ships and their crews were often in the thick of the fighting in the Pacific Theatre of WW2. USS Astoria, Quincy and Vincennes were all sunk at the Battle of Savo Island in 1942! The remaining four survived the war- even the USS New Orleans, whose heroic crew sailed her from the Solomons to Australia 25% shorter after the catastrophic loss of her entire bow forward of no. 2 turret following a torpedo strike!!!
