The 13 Days of Halloween:
“The Scariest Songs”
Hi Folks! Here is my suggestion for Number 2: What’s yours?
#2: Monster Mash
Bobby “Boris” Pickett, 1962
Same Set Playlist:
Freakers Ball – Shel Silverstein/Dr. Hook
Jungle Fever – Chakachas
Get Off – Foxy
"Now everything’s cool, Drac’s a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you"
“Monster Mash” was originally a parody of the Mashed Potato dance craze. Bobby Pickett’s vocal impersonation was so spot on that Boris Karloff himself performed a live version of the song in 1965 on the TV dance show Shindig! The song has inspired over a dozen covers (including two versions by Smashing Pumpkins), two movies, and a cartoon feature. Vincent Price also did a version, and enjoyed it so much that he agreed to add his own distinctive voice to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Pickett’s studio musicians, who dubbed themselves The Crypt Kickers for the recording session, included a young Leon Russell on piano. (Hey! Isn’t that Igor playing air guitar in the background?)
Thanx to the artists at Renderosity.com, 3Dcommune, Daz 3D, Archive3D.net, and ShareCG, whose props were used in the composition of this image.
