When making Poser mats in DS, the specular tends to be 100% to 1000% more than what looks good in Poser. The Poser user can manually set specular amount to 10% and size to 5% and it will look pretty slick.

Thanks, I now remember seeing this a couple of years ago when I first tried Poser, before I found Carrara. Should come in handy.

Perhaps this tutorial will help? I used it to create a wet look for a character just emerging from the water once . . . .
