Carrara Metaball Modelling. What is it? What can it be used for?

Beats me, but apparently it is most used for "organic" modelling, owing to the fact that it creates irregular

and natural looking shapes.

Examples would be the surface of an alien planet etc.

However what interested me was usign square primatives and using the subtraction method to create architectural

objects - like a brick for example.

Also using procedural shaders the object can take on life like textures and even be animated!
