Easy way to create Babylon Five props in Daz | Tutorials |
Hello There! Today we're doing something that even the most inexperniced person new to Daz Studio can do.
And this is how to make props from stratch within the progam, without using any other 3D progams. The best part? it will only take you less than a mintue to do it. :)
This is because if You have Daz 4 pro like I do, then it has all the tools inside the progam to almost make anything very easily.
Today we'll be borrowing images from http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Earthforce_Ranks_%26_Insignias
to make Badges and insignias for your Babylon 5 characters!
Okay, let's start.
1) Go to Create, then click on new primitive. you should select the plane opition, and once that's created move it to a spot where you can see it more easily.
2) Go to Surface Tab, and then apply the image you want to Dissfuse color tab. The image should show up!
Don't worry about the image looking distorted, we'll get around to the fix for that.
3) in the same Surface tab, go to Opcity strength. apply a Opacitiy map of the same badge shape. you can easily create this map by Adjusting the constant and brightness on the badge picture in a image editor, until it's black and white. If The badge part is black, just invert colors in your image editor. Then save that as a new opacity map to use in Daz. :)
4) Now time to resize it so that the image no longer looks distorted! you can adjust the size until you get it to be the size you want for it.
5) Move it to the area where you want it to be, and then parent it to your character.
Now you've got yourself a badge! To add on to the uniform and make it more official-looking, you can keep on repeating this techique to add other things like rank insignas, etc. Even add a Comm link! until you get a picture like this:
As you can see, I even added a trangle button for the collar and a belt buckle for the belt.
Creating all that only took me like three mintues.... now I could take my sweet time putting in the background and a scifi corridor. :)
Now you know how to do this, and you can create your own scifi world easily even if you can't find any props for Star Trek, Babylon Five or any other scifi world. Keep in mind that those props you make won't look 3d up close, but it's still a quick and cheap solution to the problem if you don't want to spend hours scouring the internet looking for props.
Have fun! see ya around...
