On 19 July 1972, the USS Biddle (CG-34) was on radar picket and SAR support in the Northern area of operations, when she was attacked 5 PAVN (North Vietnamese Army) Airforce MiG-17s in two raids. One of the MiGs in the first raid was shot down and another in the second was damaged. In return, the Biddle had her aft gun turret damaged.
