I've always loved the look of the displacement maps that I've baked from Blender (e.g. in my tileable mail textures).  I hadn't realized that it's possible to get the same effect from Poser - until now.

The main 'alabaster' image here is a GIMP composite of the second and third images, with a bit of tidying up of the gold. Second image is an untouched Poser 9 render. Third, fourth and fifth images are Poser 9 renders put on a plain background and exported as JPG from GIMP.

The second image (the transparency with the gold ornaments) was rendered with only the ornaments visble and 'Remove backfacing polys' checked.

Thie third image (black silhouette on white) was an attempt to copy the style of an image I saw recently on the Renderosity galleries - not sure where though!

The fourth image (white on black) is my successful Z-depth render. I used the focus distance guide to set up approximate  depth cue start/end values, rendered, opened the result in GIMP to check the dynamic range of the image, did a quick calculation, and then went back into Poser, made the necessary changes and re-rendered

The fifth image (gold and deep maroon on grey) is my original faied attempt at a Z-depth render in Poser 9. I didn't have the atmosphere on (hence no depth-cueing), I had some ambient on her skin (hence the deep maroon colour), and I hadn't realised that image-mapped reflections would still work.
