As a result, Boudica led a short lived but, by all accounts, bloody rebellion against Rome.  The 9th legion was destroyed in battle and Colchester, St.Albans and London all sacked, with no prisoners taken.  Roman historians put the dead at 80,000.  The savagery of the onslaught almost cuased the emperor Nero to withdraw from Britain altogether.

She is described by Roman historians as tall, with twany hair and "possessed of greater intelligence than often belongs to women." She habitually wore a large golden  torc and a thick cloak fastened by a brooch.
