Next up, the Empress.  

The Empress is a mature woman symbolising feminine power, nourishment, and growth.  Her shield bears the symbol for the Mirror of Venus, indicating divine feminine power as a shielding force, motherhood and protection of the defenceless.  It’s also the symbol for copper in classical alchemy, so I decided to render it as hammered copper.

She stands in front of water, symbolic of cleansing, renewal, purity, and the subconscious.  

She carries a staff, symbol of authority and governance; in this case referring to maternal influence in the community and protection of life.

The traditional iconography of thius card also includes wheat as a symbol of harvest, fertility and abundance.   I have resorted to my trick of using fabric designs to incorporate elements that otherwise would look a bit daft in the overall image.
