Fifth in the ongoing series – The Emperor. This was something of a challenge, as though its one of the simpler cards in tterms of symbology, there is very little suitable clothing out there in DS3 for M4, so it was a mammoth task and couple of very late nights cobbling this together from various bits and bobs, with heavily modded mats and transparencies.
The emperor’s age implies wisdom. He holds a staff of authority in his right hand. The circle atop the “T” bar is a symbol of balance showing heaven (the round sun) and earth (the horizon line) united. In his left hand the orb is a symbol of the world and the Emperor’s rule over it. Held in the hand it implies care for the world. It is also a symbol of wholeness of community. I have made this literally an earth globe, which is the focus of his study and attention. Thanks to Pete (3Dcheapskate) for his excellent globe model which provided the bump map for this!
His belt and the throne feature the ram’s head symbol of determination and leadership. The ram is also a symbol of Aries, first sign of the zodiac, reinforcing the attributes of authority.
The emperor card traditionally shows barren mountains and has an orange background. The warm colours of the card (he’s also often wearing red) are to symbolise vitality and passion for life. The obvious way to incorporate these was to have the setting of the image as a mountain sunset. I’ve not given him a red robe as I wanted there to be an obvious visual link to the empress card, so he’s in imperial purple and gold as she is. « Less
