The Wheel of Fortune is a tricky card to turn into a coherent scene so I have dispensed with some of the imagery and used alternative means to retain the symbolism. Most obviously I have removed the four winged figures that are usually shown in the corners. These represent Aquarius, Scorpio, Leo, and Taurus (Air, Water, Fire, and Earth). They have been replaced with the appropriate zodiacal symbols with a brazier of coloured flame appropriate to each element
The central disk is now the floor of a circular temple. It retains its 8 spokes suggestive of a compass (and symbolising direction in life) and the alchemical symbols for mercury, sulphur, water and salt (intellect, emotion, action, and inaction).
The scene is presided over by a blue sphinx. Sitting above the wheel and carrying a sword denotes protection of higher wisdom. Blue suggests intellect, memory, and knowledge of human nature. The serpent is a symbol of recycling (renewal in shedding its skin), secret wisdom, and temptation. The Dog headed figure is Hermanubis, with elements of both Egyptian Anubis and Greek Hermes (hence the golden winged sandals); both are guides of the soul. He symbolises the cycle of life and death and the balance between conscious and unconscious.
The plain blue background traditional on this card is now another wheel (though still more or less blue!); the Sombrero galaxy in Virgo. « Less
