Thanks for the comment Jascony. Its true that in modern interpretations this is the case, and hence the chains are slack in this image. The symbolism of the cards is complex and has evelved over the centuries. Older interpretations of what is now considered the "classic" Waite-Smith tarot suggest that the configuration of the chains may be a masonic reference, and some earlier tarot more … |

Very nice. But I thought the chains/bonds were loose. Indicating that they choose to stay. The bonds are symbolic of there wish to remain. Others have been in that position but took off the bonds and left. Others were never bound. |
