Getting close to the end of this series...

The Tower is perched on a rock, which alludes to the mountain journey of  “the Hermit”.   The tower itself is a construct, representing material ambition.  It is burning, having been struck by lightning (flash of truth).  People are jumping off and falling.   A crown (the mind) tumbles down. The fire itself is a symbol of transformation. The traditional version of this card has 22 tongues of flame which are the Hebrew yods, representing the 22 Major Arcana.  This didn’t work at all  for this composition so I left them out.

There is a lot of other symbology in this card, though I’ve not found an authoritative definition of it.  The crown on the female figure , the blue gowns, the red cloak, the clouds…  I‘ve left them in, but it’s for others to explain them!  Even the major elements are disputed.   Are the figures falling from grace or leaping to avoid destruction?

From an artistic point of view this was fun to do. I applied some of he lessons I learned making “Icarus”, playing with very wide angle cameras.   The details have worked nicely so I urge you to view at full resolution. « Less
