King Arthurs sword has had many names; originally Caledfwlch, morphing through time into Caliburn, Escalibor and the modern version, Excalibur.  There are also many tales told of it, with the story of the "Sword in the Stone" being popularised in modern times. However, some early versions of the tale (and the ones I grew up with) indicate that the sword in the stone was the sowrd of kingship, Clarent, with Excalibur being bestowed on Arthiur at a later date by the Lady of the Lake.
