Once the prerils of the underworld have been negotiated safely, Apophis defeated and the heart weighed, the soul arrives at Aaru, the perfect land of ease.  It is described as being numerous reed covered islands amidst the river, an ideal land for farming and hunting (or doing nothing at all), where all that was lost in life is returned.  One would be reuinited with loved ones who had passed on before, a cherished pet, or their comfortable home and garden complete in every detail. Here the deserving soul could enjoy an eternity of the life one had left behind on earth in the presence of loved ones and treasured possessions, all in the presence of the gods.
