"Hot season" Abyormenites share the planet of Abyormen with a humanoid species, though not at the same time. These two distinct sentient species trade off, as the planet revolves around a binary star system which brings it closer to the blue giant of the pair part of the time, and further out, around the red dwarf of the pair for the cold season.

Both species coexist and honour the artefacts and structures of the opposite species. When the season changes, all of the dominant species dies off, leaving reproductive spores which will activate when the seasons shift again (though a few "teachers" that remain underground during the opposite season to communicate with the other race.
