Numerous attempts have been made to upgrade the aging VGF-14 to provide greater weapons capabilities and to improve mission survival and adaptability. The first such was the ETO Launch system, then came the LEO Orbital Packs... These led to the failed VGF-X Experimental system and ultimately to the Advanced Variable Fighter Program. A further attempt was made in with the development of the HCA-00 Reactive Armouring system, a series of heavy blow-away plates and missile pods attached to the VGF-14. The Armour can be jettisoned when damaged or when its no longer needed, but unfortunately the system limits the VGF-14 to Mecha Mode while equipped and in the long-run it was only produced in limited numbers for special use.
